In fashion, it looks like all good things come in twos. Meet MmusoMaxwell, a design duo made up of Mmuso Potsane and Maxwell Boko. They met while doing an internship with the great David Tlale and decided to join forces as they shared similar ideas… we see a pattern here. The duo was selected for the Vogue Talent 2017 and were also featured in Vogue Italia that same year. They have also showcased their designs in Lagos, Nigeria and at SAFW where they won the Sunglass Hut New Talent Search.
His work is already international because Cassper Nyovest wore his design to this year’s BET Awards. His journey has not been an easy one. He worked as a sales assistant all the while attending fashion school. His design aesthetic has been described as Afro – punk although for me there’s a calmness to his designs that is usually not associated with punk, it’s more of an “African Minimalist”. I love that his view of African is not in the literal sense, his clothes have a global feel to them. Sibusiso is anything but conventional, his use of fabrics like hessian (used mostly as coffee bean bags) is testament to that. I look forward to more from him and I definitely can’t wait for his SS19 collection.
